230bhp RWD tuned 500 goes drifting

Motore Centrale’s mid-engined Fiat comes out for playtime, gets a bit slidey

Fiat 500 Abarth
When Jeremy tested the 500 Abarth some time ago, you might recall he loved the boingy and bouncy little Fiat, but wished some more Abarth-inspired lunacy was present.
Step forward Lucarelli Monza, and enter Lunacy. This, TopGearers, is a mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive 500. And it's bonkers.
Built by a factory in Monza, the Motore Centrale features an absurdly highly-tuned four-pot, including a big and bouncy Garrett turbo, new injectors, forged pistons and a bigger intercooler to produce a prodigious 230bhp and 243lb ft of torque. 0-62mph is quoted as 4.7 seconds - as quick as a BMW 1 Series M Coupe, don't forget - while top speed is 150mph. Seriously.
Elsewhere you will find huge 335mm front and 305mm rear brakes with four pistons, Bilstein suspension, goodies from Eiback and K&N and a kerbweight of just 1,050kg. Sadly, straitjackets are an optional extra.
Some new video has emerged of this little lion-heart doing some drifting. You should watch it. Then ask yourself, does absolute power corrupt, absolutely?
