Aluminum body, fuel-efficient engines
If you were afraid that the Jaguar SUV would ruin the brand, you can rest at ease as a new report is indicating the model will be lightweight and agile.
Set to be launched in 2015, the crossover will reportedly feature an aluminum body that weighs 200-300 kg (441-661 lbs) less than a conventional steel body. Furthermore, previous reports have indicated the model will ride on an aluminum chassis, so it's easy to see how the Jag could become one of the lightest crossovers on the market.
Under the hood, power will be provided by a variety of fuel-efficient engines. Diesel options will likely include a 190 PS (140 kW / 187 hp) 2.2-liter four-cylinder and a 3.0-liter V6 with 240 PS (177 kW / 237 hp) and 275 PS (202 kW / 271 hp). On the petrol side, we can expect a new 3.7-liter V6 or a 240 PS (177 kW / 237 hp) turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder from the Range Rover Evoque. Regardless of what engine is selected, it should be paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system.
