Autoglass predict virtual reality windscreens to become standard safety feature in near future
Instead of simply protecting passangers from the elements, imagine if windscreens could make your car journeys safer. Well the guys at Autoglass are already one step ahead and have released this concept video of the future of car windscreens.
Providing a snapshot of 2020, this video demonstrates the technological improvements that many manufacturers have already developed, but are not yet using to full potential.
Thanks to augmented reality, displayed directly onto the windscreen, the driver and passangers are informed not only of potential hazards on the road, but also given a large array of information including directions, points of interest and key vehicle statistics.
Dr Chris Davies, head of technical research and innovation at Autoglass explained:
“We already see this kind of development happening, albeit on a smaller scale in some high-end vehicles, but over the next few years we can expect to see this becoming more commonplace for those that are in a position to specify functions on their cars, and in time it may come as standard.
"The information that we see eventually making its way onto the screen will not be any more distracting than the traditional dashboard; if anything, it will be positioned in a way that is more in the line of vision than we as drivers are used to, so may in fact be ultimately safer."
