Lamborghini planning a third, 'everyday' model, says CEO - report

CEO Stephan Winkelmann says it wants a more practical model that will help grow sales of the Italian supercar maker

Lamborghini is planning on adding a third model to its lineup and the car will be an "everyday" driver, according to its CEO.
Speaking at the Reuters Global Luxury and Fashion Summit, CEO Stephan Winkelmann said that the Italian supercar maker was planning on adding a more conventional model sometime in the next few years as a way of growing Lamborghini sales. The brand believes sales of luxury models will grow in the future, particularly in the ever-expanding market of China.
"We are going to have a third model. It has to be an everyday car. We want to have a car which is able to be used on a daily basis," said Winkelmann.
But Winkelmann wouldn't say what kind of model Lamborghini was considering or what segment it would be competing in. He said that was still not decided but that Lamborghini would be developing the model on its own, not with another VW Group brand, although, it may come to share some synergies with other models. Lamborghini is a unit of Audi GmbH and part of the VW Group of brands.
Winkelmann said once the company decided on what kind of vehicle to build it would take about four years to get the model to a launch date.
We suppose he's not talking about a minivan here, so the most obvious choices are the Estoque concept as a sport sedan/coupe or a crossover/SUV? However, in a previous report from late last year Winkelmann said, "We really have a choice when it comes to an additional model: an SUV or a four-seat four-door. And for me the SUV is a no-go. It doesn't exist in our price segment, and it's not a real luxury car."
