Prince Albert takes the electric vehicle fresh off the production line for a spin around the Gran Prix circuit ahead of the race
The final production ready Fisker Karma model has made its European debut in style at the 2011 Formula One Gran Prix in Monaco this past weekend.
On hand was the head honcho of the small principality himself, Prince Albert II, who took the Karma electric vehicle fresh off the production line for a spin around the Gran Prix circuit ahead of the qualifying run there last Saturday (May 28). Accompanying his Serene Highness was Fisker co-founder and CEO Henrik Fisker.
The Fisker Karma is an electric super car with a total of 300 kW (408 PS / 403 bhp) 1,300 Nm (959 lb/ft) of torque on tap. Two electric motors each featuring 150 kW power the rear axle. The lithium-ion battery pack allows for a pure electric range of 80 km (50 miles).
Top speed is 201 km/h (125 mph) and the 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) sprint takes just 5.9 seconds when in Sport mode. The Karma also features a Stealth mode that's more stingy with energy.
The Karma is a range-extended vehicle, so it comes with a 2.0 liter gasoline engine too that drives a 175 kW electric generator to recharge the batteries while the car is in motion. The engine does not directly power the drive motors and extends the range of the Karma to around 483 km (300 miles).
Also unique are the 22-inch aluminum wheels which come standard on the car.
