V8 could produce 550 to 570 hp
In a surprise move, Lotus has announced plans to develop a new six- and eight-cylinder engine.
Speaking with Autocar, Lotus CEO Dany Bahar said the decision to delay the Elan will allow the company to fund the developement of the new engines.
Nothing is official, but sources are indicating a V8 engine prototype will be completed next month and could produce 550 to 570 hp (410- 425 kW / 558-578 PS). Furthermore, an insider hinted the V8 could eventually spawn a four-cylinder for the 2015 Elise.
While some of the concepts at the Paris Motor Show featured Toyota-sourced engines, Lotus said an internet survey indicated the company should develop their own engines. In addition, the survey showed mixed reactions to the four-door Eterne. Lotus was surprised by this, but will continue to develop the model because it is based on the Elite.
