Inspired by the legendary Porsche 911 GT3 RS, specialist firm VWvortex unveils RS edition of the new Beetle.
It's true that the original VW Beetle and Porsche 356 were designed by the same man - Ferdinand Porsche, but this car takes the link a step too far!
Designed and built by staff at VWvortex, the world's largest VW enthusiast website, the team was given early access to the next generation Beetle, due in showrooms in January 2012, and this is what they’ve come up with - a GT3 RS-apeing paint job.
The striking orange and black colour scheme is typical of the sporty Porsche and the words Beetle RS etched along its waist are certain to turn heads, but it’s the bright orange, 20-inch alloy wheels which really steel the show.
Performance and mechanical upgrades have been kept to a minimum for now though, with the only major change a set of 14-inch Brembo brake discs.
VWvortex has said that it plans on waiting until VW actually releases the new Beetle before it begins working on any modifications to the engine, but has said expect turbochargers, a sportier exhaust and there’s even talk that a GT3 inspired rear wing could be making an appearance.
Details how much the Beetle RS will cost and when it will go on sale are still unconfirmed but this is definitely one we will be keeping a close eye on.
